Memories of

 OUR

 Girl Scout
  Troop 456

Wasilla Alaska

We dedicate this page to all the Girl Scouts in the World

Who We Are and What We Do 1994-2001
Some of us are NOW Cadet's and we live in Wasilla Alaska. Our troop had creative and talented girls. We all enjoyed the time that we spent together since kindergarten. The camping trips and projects that we all did together. God Bless each one of you wonderful girls in your what ever you choose to pursue.  As you continue to grow and learn you will accomplish many things.

(3 have been with us since Daisies, the rest joined later) and we love doing badge work, community projects, singing songs, playing games, camping, and craft projects.

Our troop crest, the Purple Pansy, known as "Hearts-Ease", stands for service and friendship.
Learn more about troop crests and what they mean.
As a service project, we collected toys and clothing for children in the local Interfaith Christmas Program the Angel Tree for children in need in our community. We also participated in Scouting for Food with the Boy Scouts to stock up our local food bank.
We have had an adventure through time while we worked on Local Lore Badge. In the year 1898 seekers of GOLD headed up North to Alaska.
This officially started the Gold Rush of "98".
In 1998 we celebrated the 100th year since that faithful find. Our community has one of those mines. Independence Mine is said to still have GOLD in them there hills.
We visited the museum and learned about all kinds of tools that miners, trappers, Cheechakco and Sourdough might have used in their everyday life.
  And cookie sales start on
In February us Alaskans Enjoy Fur Rendezvous
Since old times in Alaska this was the time of the year when the miners and trappers would bring their furs in to trade. The Iditrod Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome tracks over 1000  miles of rugged Alaska wilderness. The girls have been busy raising funds to attend this event. We will be staying in a hotel with a swimming pool. The next day we will watch the Rondy Races then ride fast and scary rides at the fair.

Just want to say Hi to our little sister troop Brownie Troop 264.

Across Generations the girls got creative with this. Some made a poster with pictures and comments of three generations or more! Some chose a special person to interview.
Gold Rush "98" Local Lore which lead us to My Community where we participated in the setting up thChristmas Village in the Old Town Site. There are six buildings that we can volunteer to sponsor. Our Troop decorated the "Old Meat Cache" made out of logs.

We invited our Sister Brownie Troop 264 .They made the cutest decorations.

We'll get our feet wet with the Water Wonders badge
this Spring.
Ice Fishing Anyone? We can start in the winter when lakes are 4 feet frozen.
Girl Scouting Around the World. We started this one by learning about the Girl Guides of France.
We'll learn more about world wide scouting and guiding, too. We are sending post cards and also receiving them from all over the world. This is a wonderful Thinking Day activity.
Alaska, This is a council badge that coordinates with our 5th grade studies on our state history.
We'll learn about Eskimo Life,Arctic wildlife, and the gold rush.

PROJECT IDEA
During Christmas we toured the Museum in Anchorage. There was many exhibits to choose from. We planned this event with a 6th grade Junior Troop and voted on the Toy makers Work Shop. This includes a activity everything provided by the museum. This is of no cost to our troop. We covered all the requirements for Toy maker Badge.
SIGN OF THE RAINBOW. Girl Scouting Around
the World and the Junior Aide badge is completed for our
first sign. We did two activities from the following badges to learn more about people in your community: "My Community", "Celebrating People", "Local Lore".
